This is what I made for our Plaster sculpture project. Basically the only requirement of the project was that we had to use plaster (and as a majority of it). Other than that..ideas and everything else we used was up to us.

My idea revolved around thoughts. More precisely, negative thoughts. I was thinking of how scary it was that we can have all these ideas and assumptions about ourselves that aren't necessarily true. The scariest part of it is that they are generally brought on by other people. That's why there is a faux light in the dolls head rather than a candle- the thoughts don't necessarily ring true to the person. As a person who suffers with Depression and Anxiety disorders, I tend to have many negative thoughts about myself. These thoughts spin out out of control and create more thoughts leaving me feel worse and worse. The problem is that I can't stop them from happening. The blood shows that out of control nature. The sewn up lips represent receding into yourself and not being able to say what you really feel. The shadow that the light is casting, swallows up the person and makes it harder for them to see themselves for who they truly are.

I can't explain myself that well and I apologize. I hope what I was trying to convey comes across okay. Although, typically I like the viewer to have their own definition of what my work means as everyone has different experiences and thought processes. So if you look at this and think it means something else, then that is completely fine.

* pleasant sigh* This makes me happy for two reasons; one I understand and it's nice knowing someone who's going through some of the same shiz as you... and two, because it scares the living daylights out of some of our male classmates.

Okay, the obnoxious one with the dapper coats, always carrying a big leather laptop bag. I'm hard to miss, believe me. I spent about two thirds of last year running around in a tailcoat. XD

Mondays 3-6, but I've been milling about a lot in the studio in the extra time sessions lately trying to pull together multiple casts.
